Anza, Agadir: Why It's the Best Surf Spot in Morocco

← Journal

September 14, 2026

Ten minutes from Agadir, Anza is an old fishing village that has become, over the years, one of the favorite surf spots for travelers discovering southern Morocco. Consistent waves, a mild climate year-round, and a still-authentic atmosphere: this is why Anza deserves a place on your surf itinerary in Morocco, and why Anza Surf Expérience is the best base to enjoy it all.

Anza, a village between fishing and surfing, right next to Agadir

has long lived off coastal fishing, and the port is still active today. This is what makes the place different from the more well-known tourist areas of the region: you're as likely to pass fishermen returning to port as surfers walking up the beach, board under their arm. Less than fifteen minutes from Agadir–Al Massira airport and the city center, Anza combines the quiet of a coastal village with the convenience of a real town, with its shops, restaurants, and easy connections to the rest of the region, including Taghazout and Tamraght.

Why Anza is an ideal surf spot

The Agadir coast benefits from a fairly steady Atlantic swell almost year-round, and Anza takes full advantage of it. The beach offers conditions accessible to beginners catching their first waves, while still keeping enough punch for more experienced surfers to enjoy. It's precisely this mix that makes it a great spot to progress: you can take a first, safe lesson here, then come back years later for a solo session.

Another notable advantage: unlike more well-known, busier spots in the region, Anza stays relatively quiet, with fewer people in the water at peak times.

The best time to surf in Anza

Agadir's climate is mild year-round, with warm water and near-constant sunshine — one of the reasons the region has become a surf destination in its own right, surfable in every season. Autumn and winter usually bring more consistent swell and more shaped waves, while spring and summer are perfect for learning, with gentler conditions and warmer water.

Why choose Anza Surf Expérience for your stay

Our house is a five-minute walk from Anza beach and the area's best spots. Four rooms — shared dorms and one private double room — welcome solo travelers, groups of friends, and surfers passing through. The rooftop, overlooking the ocean, is where everyone gathers after a session: homemade breakfast in the morning, mint tea and sunset in the evening.

For those who want to learn or improve, our surf stay packages include accommodation, lessons with a certified instructor, board and wetsuit free of charge. If you'd rather surf on your own, the day rental of equipment — boards, wetsuits, ponchos, and towels — is available right on site, no booking required.
